The birthday size...

 

Donalds birthday...

It was the year he had his very first birthday party... I think he was seven.

His grandmother had baked his favorite chocolate cake and had topped it with thick chocolate frosting and let him lick the spoon.

He'd never had a birthday party before.

He'd never been this excited before.

He couldn't wait for all the kids to come rushing through the door.

They would play games and eat that wonderful chocolate cake and of course there would be ice cream.

He spent all afternoon waiting. Listening for the sound of footsteps coming up onto the porch to ring the door bell.

It must have been after five that evening when his mother finally started putting the food and games away.

Maybe they would come next year...

So, he has done the straws thing

He has played Monopoly with the economy

sent legal citizens to black hole destinations 

immigration 

record number of executive orders

trade policies

then there is always the stock market

let's  not forget the judicial system...

and only 1358 to go!

Loss...

                               

What is left is a faded blue puppy given to him by a volunteer on one of his too frequent stays in the hospital, several small wooden trucks, a Snoopy pillow case and boxes of photographs.

Over the years you wait for the pain go away but it never does.

It just changes.

It shifts from day to day and year to year and becomes something different, sometimes better sometimes worse.

And you manage to get through the days...at least most of the time.

You hold on tight and breath and even though you are not the most religious person in the world, you pray a lot.

And if you are very lucky you make it through to the moments when you remember things without the pain and you smile...and then you cry again and that's okay.

So one of Noodles crew was a hippy in the 60s

There was civil push back about the civil rights movement, the Viet Nam war, 

womans rights, voting rights...sound familiar?

And then there were the protests.

And here we are

right back {or further} than we were back then.

What's really interesting is that those same protesters, put Trump back in office!

So maybe we are having that kumbaya moment...

Would it really be such a bad thing?

if Starbucks and the whole cafe culture were to begin today, would it have thrived as it did?

these days we don't interact

we don't converse

we don't listen

we are becoming even more insulated and introverted and cut off from one another.

What happened to, "it takes a village"?

we could use a little village in this place we are in.

Well guess what, she's the new  director of Homeland Security.

And is erasing the education system!

Hès also erasing the names of those such as Colin Powel from the reembrace list at Arlington Cemetary.

So now we are left to remember the right people.

a small story...

A story by Noodles crew...

 They were never the best couple.

They had their peaks and valleys their highs and lows like everybody else

but their relationship was do able, manageable.

and there was the little dream...

Then the pandemic hit.

and there was the isolation and the realization that they didn't really have much in common

 and the constant togetherness. 

They were just two people struggling and lost

They tried to find common ground but, in the end, she drank, and he sat on the couch playing video games all day and night 

They began to feel boxed out while at the same time boxed in, glimmers of a growing frustration hovering over them every day made it worse

Then came that day

They had walked through the door, and she had turned to say something small and mundane

and she realized his hands were around her throat

then he slapped her...hard

so hard she heard here neck crack

but the worst, the thing she'd never forget was that look on his face.

Maniacal and terrorizing a look she would remember for the rest of her life.

and the dream dissolved completely.

The police came.

neighbors peered through their doors, some venturing into the hallway.

they took him to jail and her to the hospital'

There were orders of protection and persecutors and police

At some point she realized this was going to go on forever...

this was her life now.

She took the box from the back of the hall closet and removed the revolver.

She had a hard time aligning the bullets in the chamber as she had never held a gun before this

she finally loaded the barrel

She wasn't really thinking of anything in particular as she walked to the front door

She said "I'm sorry as she squeezed the trigger

then she turned the weapon on herself.

Two weeks later a couple moved into a small rustic farmhouse somehere in Italy...

and started to live a small simple life
