Lost Ideals...

The human told me that when she was young the country was going through a transition.
The times they were a changing...
She told me how you stopped a war, fought for civil rights, started recycling and the peace corps.
You sent a man to the moon!
It was a time of great optimism...
There was a desire to embrace the world and all of it's diversity...

Forty five years later a lot of those very same people are now isolationists and intolerant.
They have become judgmental and angry.
They want to take their country back.
They want to make America great again...

Mean while over in Britain, they have voted to leave the EU.
Everybody wants to build walls and reinstate boarders.
Somehow that's the answer to everything that's wrong.

Personally I can't figure out what the heck changed. I asked a few people and heard the same thing;
"we grew up". Pardon my French but that sounds like a load of crap.

I think it's a shame that you did all that work and fought so hard just to throw it all away because it didn't turn out exactly the way you thought it would be.

For those of you who are old enough to remember, here's a little something to remind you what you were fighting for and if you who are to young to remember, you should take a listen too;

Maybe with a little deeper thought and the right words and music, it will all come back to you.
In the end the world is only what you make it...

Have a wonderful Sunday!

  2. TW went out with a guy during the 70s who was the biggest anti-war, freedom fighter around. They stayed friends after the relationship ended until maybe 2005. His conservative dad died and suddenly this guy was channeling him. He suddenly loved Bill O'Reilly. I hate to think he's in the majority.

  3. We are not all isolationists. We have not all forgotten we sent a men to the moon and returned them safely. We have not lost a sense of helping the world at our own cost. We remember events that said the USA was a "special place" that helped others.

    We know that boxes of food and medical supplies in foriegn places that say "From America" still mean something. We know that "Why Doesn't America Do Something" matters still. People around the world still care when America does something. And the are generally grateful for it.

    America still matters.

    We have problems. We aren't unique. But there is still something about us that is "different".

    In the earky 1900s, Bismark of Germany said the US was a Great Power because "We had weak neighbors north and south and fishes east and west". He was wrong, that's not the reason.

    We are different because we have this weird crazy political sysytem that confounds dictatorships, that keeps the populace in political turmoil, and that keeps the political leaders uncertain.

    And every generation or so, we turn the political leadership around to their dismay.

    This next election may do that at the Senate and House.

  4. Mama lived through the times that were a changin' and she is bereft at what she sees this America becoming. That a man like Trump could even imagine being a leader is heartbreaking, that we shun our dear neighbors in Mexico and those of other religions and race is heartbreaking, that we are not the America that used to bring tears to the Allies eyess for years after the war is heartbreakibg, that the young people in our country have no idea of what their country was and what it has become is heartbreaking. We do not embrace, empathize, and learn from others. We do not learn languages so that we can hear others' words and appreciate their cultures. We are an ignorant nation of those who wish everyone to be like THEM, and the only hope mama sees is that on the west and east coasts of our great nation, there might be hope that consciousness of a small world that is getting smaller and in need of cooperation among all people will spread to the middle where only narrowmindedness and guns seem to be the norm. How sad, all of this.

    I 'feel' ya, Noodle... as I currently reside in UK, am shaking my head in dismay at the short-sightedness and selfishness. Then again, it is also the cycle of things; memories are short and mankind and societies keep having to relearn stuff. So much for history as a teacher........ Blessings, YAM xx

  7. Oh Noodle- such deep good thoughts from a kitty ! Churchill said something about young men being liberals and becoming conservative as they grow older, but this is beyond that.

  9. Sadly, the terrorists and extremists are dictating how we're having to change our lives. It's a very unsafe world and getting worse all the time. Something has to be done. Sweet selfie today, Noodle!

    Agree with everything you just said. It seems that humans are regressing back to the dark ages. Maybe cats should rule the world instead!
