                                                Guns...

You  hear it all the time "guns don't kill people, people kill people". No...people kill people WITH GUNS. Take away the guns from the equation and thousands less people would die.

A child  is dead because he thought his dads gun was a toy.
A woman  is dead because her husband was of the opinion,"if I can't have you no one can".
12 killed and 70 wounded in a movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado.
26 dead, most of whom were children in a grade school shooting in Connecticut.
Nine people who were at a prayer meeting in South Carolina who are dead.
A twelve year old boy in Ohio who was playing with a toy gun and killed in seconds by police...
and there are so many more...

And now two more deaths of two young people who were doing their jobs and gunned down on live television.

I am not out to debate the second amendment. I don't think guns are bad. I think our mentality and fascination toward guns borders on the absurd and that is troubling.

For the first time EVER, this year more people will die due to guns than will die in automobile accidents! http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2015/01/americas-top-killing-machine/384440/

Please, please, please...
Let's come together and fix this.

  1. Seen from Switzerland, that sounds a little bit crazy. But seen from the outside, the fact that Swiss soldiers keep their gun and assault rifle at home (but without the ammunition !) can look crazy too. The fact is that it's very very rare that someone get shot... Purrs

  4. I'm very troubled by the gun situation in America. So many accidents and "crimes of passion" and of course, those that take innocent lives to make a statement of some kind.

  6. Guns are scary things. The problem is the people that don't care to follow laws are the ones that manage to get guns and harm people. I wish there was a way to stop this, but it is like drugs, they are illegal, but somehow people get them.

  7. We're with you, Noodle. Something has to be done. But what...we don't know what the answer is.

  8. As we don´t live in your country we feel that we can´t tell you what to do.
We do think it´s awfull that so many innocent people are killed by guns in your country !
In Sweden we have very strict firearm law.

    It´s 18-year limit
To get the gun license required in the rule that you are over 18 years. There are some exceptions. You should also be law abiding and well-behaved. To get hunting firearm permit are required to have completed a hunting license. To get a license for a gun for target practice requires that you at least six months have been an active member of an approved shooting club engaged in shooting the firearm license applies.

People does get killed by firearms in Sweden too :(
Mostly by guns that are smuggled into our country from former Balkan Countries.

So pleased your mum stopped my My Take, Noodle, as it led me to you and I am loving the cattitood... as one who lives external to the USA, looking in the situation does indeed not look good. The way it comes across is that all and sundry can just get hold of a gun...though I am sure it truly cannot be that easy. As others have said, the determined (and sick) will always find a way. What is the greater and more troubling thing is exactly what you have alluded to yourself - how to address the minds who think this provides the answers to their problems. It would take a major cultural shift, I sense...

Blessings to you for the courage of your convictions Noodle (and your 'crew').

On a lighter note, I have added you to my animalogue blogroll on my other bloggy, which is where most of my Blogville OoWaC stuff happens - though, mum may prefer the piccie only one - you can fight between you on that score - but nothing more than claws and fur-spits, okay?!!! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

  10. We find the gun laws in the US to be an anathema! If no one had guns (except for hunting maybe) then no one would need guns!
