Ode To The Fourth Of July...
Our nation is broken...
I has been said many times
a house divided must fall...
Well, it fell...
So what now?
We can stand looking at the rubble and point our fingers at one another and whine and moan about who is responsible, but to what avail?
If Congress won't act to create jobs, build bridges and repair roads, what are poor little citizens like you and I suppose to do?
If no one fixes the backlog of Veterans paper work so that the people we send to fight our battles are ignored when they return home, do we really think others will sign up to take their place? Who will go fight the next time...you?
We can wrap ourselves in the flag and watch the fireworks once a year while for the remaining 364 days we yell at each other about guns and abortion and immigration. We can segregate ourselves into tidy little niches like Christen, Muslim, Jew... black, white, brown...
pro this and that and against that and this. Democrat vs. Republican, right vs. left and on and on...
but to what end?
Does all the chatter create more jobs? Fix roads and bridges. Provide medical and food for the men and women who have fought for and are fighting for the safety of our country? How does it educate our children, protect our elderly and create an environment that will be the impetus of the cure for Cancer or Alzheimer's or what ever the next big break through might be?
If our elected officials will not act...then we must. Yes, it's hard and not a one of us has the time to spare. We are all so very busy with our own little lives...but here's the thing, if we have time to complain then we have time to demand more from our elected officials and more of ourselves.
Because in the end, if we won't fight for a better country...why should we expect anyone else to?
Happy 4th of July
