The birthday size...

 

Donalds birthday...

It was the year he had his very first birthday party... I think he was seven.

His grandmother had baked his favorite chocolate cake and had topped it with thick chocolate frosting and let him lick the spoon.

He'd never had a birthday party before.

He'd never been this excited before.

He couldn't wait for all the kids to come rushing through the door.

They would play games and eat that wonderful chocolate cake and of course there would be ice cream.

He spent all afternoon waiting. Listening for the sound of footsteps coming up onto the porch to ring the door bell.

It must have been after five that evening when his mother finally started putting the food and games away.

Maybe they would come next year...

So, he has done the straws thing

He has played Monopoly with the economy

sent legal citizens to black hole destinations 

immigration 

record number of executive orders

trade policies

then there is always the stock market

let's  not forget the judicial system...

and only 1358 to go!

Loss...

                               

What is left is a faded blue puppy given to him by a volunteer on one of his too frequent stays in the hospital, several small wooden trucks, a Snoopy pillow case and boxes of photographs.

Over the years you wait for the pain go away but it never does.

It just changes.

It shifts from day to day and year to year and becomes something different, sometimes better sometimes worse.

And you manage to get through the days...at least most of the time.

You hold on tight and breath and even though you are not the most religious person in the world, you pray a lot.

And if you are very lucky you make it through to the moments when you remember things without the pain and you smile...and then you cry again and that's okay.

So one of Noodles crew was a hippy in the 60s

There was civil push back about the civil rights movement, the Viet Nam war, 

womans rights, voting rights...sound familiar?

And then there were the protests.

And here we are

right back {or further} than we were back then.

What's really interesting is that those same protesters, put Trump back in office!

So maybe we are having that kumbaya moment...

Would it really be such a bad thing?

if Starbucks and the whole cafe culture were to begin today, would it have thrived as it did?

these days we don't interact

we don't converse

we don't listen

we are becoming even more insulated and introverted and cut off from one another.

What happened to, "it takes a village"?

You ask me...

we could use a little village in this place we are in.

And is erasing the education system!

Hès also erasing the names of those such as Colin Powel from the reembrace list at Arlington Cemetary.

So now we are left to remember the right people.
