Maybe We Need Some Words Wednesday....

Okay, now that we all remember how adorable I was as a baby Noodle...

I know it's supposed to be wordless Wednesday and you are all looking forward to my cute little face today but it seemed like it was inappropriate to leave it at that, this week especially.
I think we all need to use our words and restart ( or start ) a conversation in the wake of the tragadees last week and all those that have preceeded them.

I saw this tweet somewhere on the interwebbie;

If you are white, you really can't know what the above feels like.
I am white.
I am one of those people who decries racism and will swear up and down and all the way home that I would never have an inappropriate thought or response to anyone's race.

As much as i'd like to believe that, I can't possibly know if something I have said or done seems racist or inappropriate to someone else. Some one who is not the same as me.
To say that I can is to say that I am somehow able to know what it's like to be someone else.
So let's cut the crap and get realistic.
Until we get out of the denial of our own ignorance on this subject we can't address it let alone fix it.

We, you, me we all need to be open to what others are feeling.
How what we do affects others.
Do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
Put ourselves in someone elses shoes and take a walk.
You bet it might be uncomfortable and the person putting themselves in my shoes or your shoes will be uncomfortable too.
But life is uncomfortable, that's how we know we are growing.

So, lets talk!
Talk to your friends but also strike up a conversation with people you don't usually talk to.
It's the only hope we have to change.

Have a wonderful Wednesday...

That's it Noodle. Get to know your neighbour, then your neighbour's neighbour and the neighbour beyond that; embracing difference dissolves fear. Thanks for being wordy this Wednesday! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. If only thinking and dreaming it, could make it so. Mom can hardly even watch the TV anymore for fear of more bloodshed! It seems as if it will never end. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  8. Fur sure. I live with my 6 yr old grandboy. Each and every day one thing I mention to him, in one way or another is the Golden Rule. It may refer to the little ant he see's on the pavement as we walk to school ... it may refer to the clerk who smiled at him in Walgreen's ... or another child playing alone on the playground. But I believe it is in all encompassing lesson that must be learned and that will serve well throughout life. And it is the closest we can ever hope to come to walking in another's shoes ...

  9. OK, TBT here. I'm white. And *I* am starting to fear the police. I drive to get cigs from the 7-11, I drive to the grocery store, I drive to the barber shop and I don't usually give it a 2nd thought.

MY experience is that I won't be in trouble by just driving.

But I was a Hippie in my younger days and got a hint of it.

I'm angry at the insensibility of police (white and black) at how they treat black people so routinely. It is making me scream! There is something broken in the police system.

The only person I ever knew who became a policeman was a college dorm mate. He was COMPLETEY insane. And they welcomed him among them. And that was the STATE police! He was ONE of them...

I cringe everytime I see the TV scroll "BREAKING NEWS". Because it usually means another black guy has been killed for no possible rational reason.

Where does it end? It can't end in reciprocal violence. Violence just begets more violence. I think the answer is to stop having "police" and start training "peacekeepers".

If I knew how to do that, I would be a genious. But I'm not. I just see the start of the path, not the end...

  11. Sometimes TW thinks she goes out of her way to prove that she's not anti-black, anti-gay, etc and it comes off as condescending but she hopes not.
