A cat named Cheddar...
Cheddar

In this world that at times can be filled with anxiety and division sometimes it's hard to find the stories of simple acts of goodness and love that are hidden in the chaos.
We came upon one such story right in our own neighborhood and were so moved we wanted to share it...
Jade got her cat Cheddar from the Brooklyn New York public shelter 1 year ago.
She flew home with him and he became a part of the family.
Cheddar would sit in the front window and watch people walk by.
Jade would take Cheddar for walks around the neighborhood on a little leash and harness and says he loved meeting new people and their dogs.
On Friday, Cheddar accidentally got out.
That evening a couple stood in the street as they tended to a cat that had been hit by a car.
They where trying to notify the owner and stayed with the injured cat petting and comforting it.
On Saturday there was a small makeshift memorial where Cheddar had been hit. One of the notes left at the memorial was handwritten and said, "I was on my way to work. Please forgive me."
Later, Jade would leave a comment in a post where this story was first reported where she said; "to the young man who had this unfortunate accident with Cheddar, It was not your fault and I do forgive you".
Cheddar didn't know the couple who comforted him while they searched for his owner.
He didn't know the person who hit him.
He didn't know the people who read his story and sent words of comfort and sympathy to Jade.
But clearly all these people where touched briefly by a cat named Cheddar.
In loving memory of Cheddar...

That's such a sad story, rest in peace dear Cheddar.
ReplyDeleteFor ALL the bad people and events, there are some truly wonderful people that make life worth living. Gentle purrs for Cheddar and his mom, and thanks for sharing.

Noodle, this was both a heartwarming and heart-wrenching story. We are saddened that Cheddar and Jade only had one year together. And we are so sad for the young man that hit him. That memory will remain with him always. May Cheddar rest in peace and may Jade be consoled by her memories. Thanks for sharing this story. ReplyDeleteThat is so sad, but I am glad the people stayed with Cheddar to comfort him as he passed, and that the driver let the owner know it was he who hit him. A very sad occasion.
ReplyDeleteWe purr in memory of Cheddar...
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad Cheddar knew love and care in his life, though his passing was very sad, of course.
ReplyDeleteI have tears in my eyes. I don't know if I could be so forgiving, but what an amazing story. Bless those people who comforted Cheddar in his last moments.
ReplyDeleteWe knew there still had to be people around who would do what they could to tend to Cheddar, comfort him, memorialize him. We feel for each of them.
ReplyDeleteOh, the tears......

ReplyDeleteWhat a sad and beautiful story. Only it’s not a story, it is reality. We are so sorry for your loss! My angel cat Pepper got hit by a car also. Probably because he was so friendly to everyone he saw and if they talked to him then he might follow them. I blame myself a little too because if I didn’t take him for walks with our dog (dog was leashed & cat followed and lead freely) and then we had two cats who walked the dog with me. I am two blocks from a. Fairly busy street but they can get hit easily. Pepper had a name tag and everybody in the neighborhood knew who he was and they brought him up on our porch after he had been gone for a couple days so we could say our goodbyes.
ReplyDeleteThese are the angels we remember the most though. The ones who brought so much joy to their people and maniy friends! We share your sorrow truly. Pepper has been gone for almost two years and I still see him out of the corner of my eye or hear his distinctive meow at night. God bless.
