In the meantime, did you know:

the word gerrymander appeared in a political cartoon in the Boston Gazette 

The term combined the name, of Massachusetts governor Eldridge Gerry with a salamander 

reflecting the shape of a partisan voting

 district he approved.

  5. I remember the story, and seeing the political cartoon in my history book in school. It's just not right, no matter what you call it, but it's done all the time anyway.
